What Dearfold does with your information
Effective 6 August 2026
Dearfold does not collect your personal data. The app has no server, no account and no analytics. Everything you save — photos, words, dates, measurements — stays on your device and, if you have iCloud switched on, syncs through your own private iCloud database, which we cannot access.
1. Who this policy is from
Dearfold is the publisher of the Dearfold app for iPhone and iPad ("we", "us"). This policy covers the app and this website. If you have a question about it, write to us at dearfoldapp@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
None. Dearfold contains no code that transmits information to us or to any third party. There is no analytics framework, no crash reporting service, no advertising or attribution SDK, and no third-party software development kit of any kind in the app. We do not operate a server that the app talks to, so there is nowhere for your information to arrive.
We do not ask you to create an account. We never see your name, your email address, your child's name, your photographs, or anything you write.
3. What the app stores, and where
The content you create in Dearfold is stored on your device. This includes:
- the photographs you choose to add to a page;
- the words you write, and your answers to the app's prompts;
- details about your child that you enter yourself, such as a name, a birth date, and measurements like height and weight;
- your book's settings, such as the theme and which chapters exist.
4. iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, Dearfold syncs your book between your own devices using Apple's CloudKit private database. Your content is stored in your iCloud account, under your Apple ID, and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to that database, no credentials for it, and no way to read, export or recover its contents.
If you sign out of iCloud or disable it for Dearfold, the app continues to work using the copy on your device.
5. Photographs
Dearfold asks for access to your photo library so you can pick pictures for a page. It reads only the photographs you select. Selected photographs are stored with your book, on your device and in your private iCloud, exactly as described above. They are not uploaded to us and are not sent anywhere else.
6. Writing suggestions
Dearfold can suggest wording to help you finish an entry. This runs on Apple's on-device foundation models, on your iPhone or iPad. The text you are working on is processed locally and is not transmitted to us or to any external service to produce a suggestion.
7. Notifications
The app uses silent background notifications from Apple's CloudKit service. Their only purpose is to tell the app that your own iCloud data has changed so it can refresh. They carry no content, are not used to message you, and are not used for marketing.
8. Printed books and pricing
Prices shown for a printed book are estimates displayed inside the app. Dearfold does not take payment and does not collect a delivery address. If ordering is offered in a future version, this policy will be updated before it becomes available, and it will say plainly what is shared with a printing or payment provider at that point.
9. Children's information
Dearfold is intended for use by parents and other adults, not by children. The app is designed to record a child's early life, and the details you enter about your child are treated exactly like everything else in this policy: they are stored on your device and in your own iCloud, and are never sent to us. Because we collect nothing, we do not knowingly collect personal information from or about children.
10. Your control over your information
Because your content is yours and held by you, you control it directly. You can edit or delete any page or entry inside the app. Deleting the app removes the copy on your device. Content held in iCloud can be removed through iOS Settings, under your Apple ID, in the iCloud storage settings for Dearfold.
We cannot delete your data on your behalf, because we do not hold it. For the same reason there is nothing for us to disclose in response to a data access request; a request for access, portability or erasure of Dearfold content is answered by your own device and iCloud account.
11. This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from any other company — the typeface is served from this site along with everything else, so your browser contacts no third party while you read this. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and requested pages, for security and reliability. We do not use those logs to identify you.
12. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a future version begins collecting anything at all, we will say so here before that version ships.
13. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about anything the app does with your information, go to dearfoldapp@gmail.com. A person reads it.
